THE SICILY RETREAT
Creative Retreat | Pantelleria, Italy | April 30-May 5, 2025
Join us April 30th-May 5th at the stunning Tenuta Borgia.
This private country home lies tucked away in the island’s national park and comes fully equipped with sea views, an Arabian garden, and a majolica-tiled swimming pool.
Our 5-night, 6-day island retreat has been designed to encourage slowing down and deepening connection with our creativity, community, and ourselves.
Our time together will be dedicated to disconnecting from the busyness of our day-to-day, hitting ‘reset’, and finding a home away from home.
Together, we’ll make art, move, and nourish our bodies with local food in an intimate group of like-minded, inspiring women. Days will be balanced between an assortment of creative workshops, mindful yoga classes, a cooking workshop, and a healthy amount of downtime.
If you’re looking for a reason to step away from the go-go of life and take some time to ground down, expand your community, and discover a new place, this one’s for you!
Under the sun and away
Situated between mainland Sicily and Tunisia is the idyllic and otherworldly Pantelleria: a remote and seemingly untouched volcanic island. Known for its rugged terrain, hot springs, and natural craters, its landscapes are wild and offer a full immersion in its natural elements.
Often referred to as the “Black Pearl of the Mediterranean” for its striking volcanic rocks, Pantelleria feels like a place frozen in time. Its famous winds, tempered and warm by springtime, earned it another title from the Arabs: “Bent al Ryon”, translating to “Daughter of the Wind.” Sweeping from one coast to the other, its breeze plays in an orchestra with the sea, and the island has been a forever listener.
You’ll find dammusi — traditional, cube-shaped homes built from local lava stone - dotting the landscape and adding to the island’s epic charm. It’s a grounding, soulful, and alluring destination — one that provides ample opportunity for inspiration and ease. This volcanic gem offers the perfect backdrop for total relaxation, an open line of inspiration, and deeper connections with each other and ourselves.
We’ll have Tenuta Borgia’s entire space to ourselves, with access to all amenities, including a stunning pool, an Arabic garden, and 12 hectares of lush orchard for your wandering pleasure. Beyond our planned workshops and shared meals, there’s plenty to do both on and off the estate.
Slow Days by the Sea
Each day you'll be invited to join us for one of our curated workshops (think: collaging, painting, cooking, ceramics, etc.). These workshops will play on our surroundings & our collaborative experience. You can also expect plenty of time to hang out by the pool or explore Pantelleria’s wild coastlines and ancient terraces.
At mealtimes, we'll meet you at the table, where we'll connect and celebrate thoughtful and seasonal plant-focused dishes reflecting the island’s local cuisine.
On the other side of the retreat, expect a reignited sense of wonder, a deeper connection to your creative self, and fresh inspiration from one of our favorite Italian islands.
An Exploration of Food
Pantelleria’s history is as intricately woven as Sicily’s, boasting a collection of diverse cultures that lends itself to the depth of its local ingredients. Because of its peculiar geography, the island is home to endemic species of plants that, known and harvested throughout the centuries, are now part of long-standing culinary traditions. Pantelleria’s capers are a delicacy the whole of Sicily prides itself on. Harvested in May, these capers are small treasures of flavor, unapologetically present in all traditional recipes, from fresh fish marinades to vegetable dishes and desserts.
Interesting is the example of the çiakiçiuka, a local vegetable stew with Arab etymology. In Pantelleria, extra virgin olive oil is pressed from an olive tree variety called Biancolilla, a tree that farmers have learned to grow in width and not in height, making it more resistant to the wind.
The local cuisine will be highlighted and celebrated throughout our time together. accompanying us daily, and encouraging us to reflect upon the land that hosts us. We will taste Biancolilla olive oil and Chef Vivi will use it as the base for all our meals.
Please know that the kitchen space is always open, and an integral part of our retreats, where stories and knowledge are generously shared. Vivi’s family history anchored in Sicily will make this retreat’s cooking an ode to this ancient land and its cosmopolitan range of Mediterranean influences.

How to get there
Pantelleria is serviced year-round by DAT.DK flights from Palermo and Trapani, with options once/twice a day, and from Catania on Thursdays and Sundays. Prices typically range from €50 to €80, making it a convenient and affordable option.
We highly recommend flying directly to Pantelleria’s modern, efficient airport (PNL) rather than taking the ferry. While the ferry is available from Trapani, it’s often subject to delays and cancellations due to rough seas. Should you opt for the ferry, note that it takes about 6 to 7 hours and departs at 11:00 pm, arriving at Porto di Pantelleria early the next morning.

Pantelleria is generally quite pleasant in May, with daytime temperatures typically ranging from 18°C to 24°C (64°F to 75°F). The island is starting to heat up, and you can expect plenty of sunshine with the occasional breeze.
It’s worth noting that Pantelleria is known as "the daughter of the wind" for a reason: it can be quite windy at times and evenings can be cooler, so a light jacket is a good idea incase the wind does pick up.
